Demecan was founded in Berlin in 2017 by Adrian Fischer, Cornelius Maurer and Constantin von der Groeben. In 2019 it was the only independent German company awarded a BfArM cultivation licence for medical cannabis. Production takes place at an EU-GMP-certified facility in Ebersbach near Dresden, acquired from the insolvent Wayland Group in 2020.
